MANILA - The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption is set to file a disbarment case against Senator Leila de Lima before the Supreme Court on Friday, the VACC's founding chair said.

The disbarment charges stem from De Lima's alleged links to the illegal drug trade in the national penitentiary that was brought to light during a series of congressional probes earlier this month, VACC founding chair Dante Jimenez said.

"De Lima violated section 28 [of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act], or the criminal liability of government officials involved in illegal drug trade," Jimenez said.

The VACC filed drug trafficking charges against De Lima and seven others before the Department of Justice earlier this month.

De Lima said she will file counter charges against the people who are conniving to pin false allegations against her.

"We welcome those counter charges because that is her (De Lima's) right. That the usual defense of accused individuals," Jimenez said.
