ILOILO CITY – The Office of the Ombudsman recommended the filing of graft and corruption charges against former Iloilo Provincial Administrator Manuel "Boy" Mejorada for the alleged overpricing of laptops.

The Commission on Audit had released its findings in 2008, which prompted the Ombudsman to investigate.

The Ombudsman recommended the filing of charges against former Iloilo General Services Office Chief Ramie Salcedo, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Grace Trabado, Administrative Officer III Danny Baldemor, and Computer Maintenance Technologist III Edgar Piansay.

In order to do away with disallowances by the COA, Provincial Legal Officer Dennis Ventilacion said the Bids and Awards Committee carefully followed the procurement process.

They reminded officials who received supplies to examine if the items were in accordance with the purchase order.

In 2015, the Office of the Ombudsman dismissed for lack of evidence the complaint filed by Mejorada against officials involved in the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center, who included Senate President Pro-Tempore Franklin Drilon, then-Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr., Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority Administrator Mark Lapid, DPWH Undersecretary Jaime Pacanan, Public Works Region 6 Director Edilberto Tayao, DPWH Bid Chairman Marilyn Celiz, and Romeo Momo.
