ROSARIO, LA UNION - Ariel Ibay, believed to be a member of Omo Crime Group in La Union, was shot dead after engaging police officers in a gun fight Monday afternoon.
Ibay was aboard a motorcycle when he was apprehended by Rosario Municipal Police Station officers because the vehicle had no license plate and he was not wearing a protective helmet.
“Sa halip na maki-cooperate, bumunot siya ng baril at pinutukan niya yung ating tropa. So walang ibang resort kundi gumanti ng putok at tinamaan na yung ating suspect," Chief Inspector Roy Villanueva, chief of police, said.
(Instead of cooperating, he pulled out a gun and shot a policeman. There was no other choice but to fire back and the suspect was shot.)
Villanueva also revealed that Ibay was previously charged with murder and robbery with force upon things. He is also allegedly involved in gun for hire activities, armed robbery and illegal drug transactions.
Ibay was also Top 8 in the list of manhunt Charlie in Balaoan, La Union.
A relative denied the allegations.
Nine fired cartridges of different guns were recovered in the crime scene, including caliber .38 gun and three bullets believed to be owned by Ibay.
Nine sachets of suspected shabu were also found hidden in Ibay's belt bag upon inspection.
