POLOMOLOK, SOUTH COTABATO - A village chief allegedly caught with a grenade under his pillow denied that the explosive was his, saying the grenade was planted.

Koronadal Proper Barangay Captain Juner Magbanua is one of two village chieftains arrested for possession of illegal firearms. Authorities earlier said they found a fragmentation grenade under a pillow inside the master’s bedroom of his house.

Magbanua, however, denied owning the explosive.

“Kahit na sinong drug addict na tatay o husband man, eh hindi nya kayang lagyan ng granada sa ilalim ng unan ng asawa nya. Ang mga anak ko doon din nakahiga. So, sa akin pa kaya o sa isang normal na tao pa kaya.”

[Any drug addict who is a father or a husband would not be able to place a grenade under the pillow of his wife. My children also sleep there. I or any normal person would not do that.]

Authorities also found ammunition in the Magbanua residence.

Magbanua was charged with possessing explosives, and will remain at the Polomolok Police Station. He was also listed in the narco-politicians list as protector.

Aside from Magbanua, authorities also filed a complaint against barangay captain Vicente Yungco Jr. of Poblacion, Polomolok. This was after police recovered a 9mm pistol, 12 gauge shotgun, an airgun and different ammunition during a raid by the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Task Group of Region 12 in his house Monday.

Yungco said the South Cotabato provincial government issued the 9mm pistol and 12 gauge shotgun for barangay patrols.

He was able to show documents of the two guns. The airgun however, did not have proper documents.

According to the police, Yungco was listed as protector in the narco-politicians list of President Rodrigo Duterte.

But the barangay captain denied the allegations.

“Ang akin, kung ano man ang programa ng gobyerno, sinusuportahan ko po ito. Kung magsabi sila ng mag-tokhang, ako mismo ang pumupunta. Kung sino yung pinaghihinalaan natin, pina-surrender natin. So sa prangkang usapan hindi ako protector ng droga.”

[I support whatever is the program of the government. If they say they will conduct Tokhang, I will personally go. Whoever is being alleged, we convince to surrender. So straightforward, I am not a protector of drugs.]

Yungco has posted bail of P100,000.

In Sarangani and South Cotabato, a total of nine barangay officials were arrested by the RAIDSOTG 12 that were included in the President’s narco-politicians list.
