MANILA- Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is ready to take on the job of the administration party's campaign manager in the 2019 mid-term elections.
Alvarez, currently the secretary general of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party, said he will accept the job because it is his "duty and obligation."
"Tatanggapin ko yan dahil nga ako yung secretary general ng partido. Kung yun ang trabaho na ibibigay sa akin sa 2019, that is my duty and obligation to accept it," he said Wednesday.
Senate President Koko Pimentel earlier said they will ask Alvarez to be their party's "national campaign manager" for the senatorial slate under the battle cry "12-0."
Pimentel had floated some names for the possible senatorial slate, which included himself, and Representatives Albee Benitez, Geraldine Roman, Karlo Nograles, Rodolfo Fariñas, and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino.
Alvarez maintained the list is not yet final as Fariñas had already expressed lack of interest.
"May mada[dag]dag pa, may mawawala siguro dahil si majority leader ay nagsabing ayaw niyang tumakbo. Pinag-aaralan pa namin yung meron namang tsansang manalo," he said.
The Speaker also denied plans of seeking a Senate seat.
"Congressman ako. Okay na ako dito," he said.
Alvarez explained that they are considering winnability in their choices.
"Lahat naman kino-consider ng partido kaya lang tingnan natin kung talagang may capability na mananalo," he said.
