MANILA - The Senate finance committee has increased the 2018 budget of the Office of the Vice President by P20 million for its Angat Buhay project.
Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto moved that the OVP’s proposed P443.9 million 2018 budget be increased to P463.9 million.
The OVP has a P428 million budget for 2017, but without any support for the Angat Buhay project.
Angat Buhay "complements" the Department of Social Welfare and Development's 4Ps program, assisting 153 sites selected based on their poverty incidence rate. It covers 6 aspects of poverty or necessities that must be addressed, which include malnutrition, livelihood and disasters.
The OVP's budget was formally submitted to the floor and approved in less than 15 minutes.
In an interview with Senate media, Vice President Leni Robredo thanked the Senate, saying the OVP can now directly extend assistance to the public.
