CAMARINES SUR - A woman who was running an unlicensed dental practice was arrested in an entrapment operation by the National Bureau of Investigation in Calabanga, Camarines Sur Thursday.

Nonielon Olbes will be charged for violating Republic Act 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.

Olbes trained in dentistry, but is not certified to practice after failing the licensure examination.

Rex Solano, special investigator of NBI-Naga City, said Olbes could face a fine of not more than P500,000 or imprisonment for at least two years.

During the entrapment operation, law enforcers chanced upon a customer, who told NBI that he was asked by Olbes to visit the clinic to get his dentures.

Records from the Philippine Dental Association showed the clinic was registered to Dr. Gerson Verdejo, a licensed dentist who is now based in the United States.

Jessie Albeus, co-chairman of PDA's committee on illegal practice, said they will look into the case on how come Olbes was operating the clinic.

Authorities are now warning the public to ensure their dentists are qualified and board certified to avoid health risks.
