MANILA - Valenzuela 1st District Representative Weslie Gatchalian is seeking the Sandiganbayan's permission to join President Rodrigo Duterte in his trip to China this month.
In a motion submitted on Thursday, Gatchalian said he will be part of the President's entourage for a trade mission in China.
Gatchalian said that as chairman of the Trade and Industry Committee of the Commission on Appointments, he "will assist and advice the President during his discussion with Chinese delegates on matters of economic, political and trade relations."
Gatchalian is asking that he be allowed to travel from October 18 to 22, 2016.
Gatchalian needs the Sandiganbayan's permission for his trip abroad because of a standing hold departure order issued in connection to his pending graft and malversation case over the Local Water Utilities Administration's (LWUA) alleged illegal procurement of a thrift-bank owned by his family.
