One person was killed in a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay San Antonio, Jasaan town, Misamis Oriental on Tuesday afternoon.
At the time this story was filed, Jasaan Fire Marshal Edsel Salvana said his department was in the process of identifying the charred body. Authorities were yet to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire reached the third alarm, requiring 10 firetrucks from nearby towns to respond.
The trucks encountered difficulty entering the affected areas due to narrow roads. To reach certain areas then, firefighters linked together hoses and approached the fire on foot.
The fire was declared under control at about 7:30 p.m.
About 200 people were instructed to seek shelter at the village covered court.
Salvana said the damage cost about P750,000.
