SOUTH COTABATO -- Large cracks were found in three areas in Barangay Lamcade in Lake Sebu town, South Cotabato.
The cracks were found in Sitios T'bob, Bong, and Tekansad in Barangay Lamcade.
Officials from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Lake Sebu Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and a representative from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) inspected the area and concluded that the cracks were tension cracks due to an earthquake.
MGB Senior Geologist Ariel Austin Acosta said the cracks appeared after an earthquake on September 16. Heavy downpour also widened the cracks.
“Ang tendency niyan lalambot yung lupa, so na-expose lalo yung tension cracks,” said Acosta.
He added, if the tension cracks worsen, at least 12 families will be affected.
“Hindi sila makakalabas or makakapasok using that road. Pero yung magiging aksyon nila is umikot doon sa area ng T’boli which is malayo para sa kanila," Acosta said.
