MANILA - The Philippine National Police rolled out Tuesday summary dismissal proceedings against 16 policemen involved in the anti-drug sweep that killed 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos.
Police previously claimed they shot Delos Santos because he fought them with a gun. But CCTV footage shows the teen being dragged before he was killed.
The PNP Internal Affairs Service has found probable cause to file administrative charges against the officers.
The policemen appeared at the PNP-IAS headquarters at Camp Crame for the dismissal proceedings, straight from the PNP Custodial Center in Bicutan, where they have been detained pending the resolution of their administrative case.
Among the group were PO3 Arnel Oares, and PO1s Jeremias Pereda and Jerwin Cruz, who were directly involved in Delos Santos' death.
The policemen will be required to submit a position paper. In 30 days, the PNP-IAS will submit its recommendations to PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa.
The entire Caloocoan police force has been relieved from their posts following the controversial deaths of Delos Santos and fellow teenager Carl Angelo Arnaiz.
