CANLAON CITY - A mother strangled her son to death in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, police said.
Chief Insp. Wilfredo Alarcon Jr. said they received a call from the Canlaon District Hospital on the suspicious death of the 7-year-old boy who was brought to their hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Alarcon said the boy who was declared dead on arrival may have been already dead for 2 to 3 hours, according to the district hospital.
The police said it was the grandfather, a retired cop, who brought the child to the hospital.
Investigation showed that the mother admitted to the boy's grandfather that she killed her son by strangulating him using a belt. She said she tied her son’s hands as well.
She also told the grandfather that she placed the child inside a sack and put him in a trolley bag.
The family claimed the mother was having psychological problems, which was the reason why she had stopped working abroad for a year now, Alarcon said.
The mother is now in police custody. Alarcon said she is unresponsive to their inquiries.
The Women and Children's Protection Desk of Canlaon Police is set to file parricide charges against the woman.
