House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday defended House Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas for insisting on the constitutional provision that gives congressmen immunity from traffic violations during legislative sessions.

Alvarez said immunity should cover their trips to and from sessions.

Speaking at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay, Alvarez said Fariñas was merely invoking what is stated in the Constitution.

“Dahil talagang sa Constitution meron talagang ibinibigay na immunity sa mga congressmen—legislators pala—going to Congress atsaka yung while Congress is in session, at saka yung pabalik.

Alvarez, however, said many congressmen already come to work early.

He said congressmen have been industrious in attending to work.
