MANILA (UPDATED) - The embattled wife of Commission on Elections Chair Andres Bautista, Mrs. Patricia Bautista, went to the Office of the Ombudsman on Friday for a fact-finding investigation on the alleged ill-gotten wealth of her husband.
Mrs. Bautista was accompanied by her spokesperson, Atty. Lorna Kapunan.
“She was subpoenaed by the Ombudsman in line with its fact-finding investigation investigation and out of respect to the Ombudsman, we brought our client,” Kapunan said in a text message.
Mrs. Bautista’s presence at the Office of the Ombudsman comes before the House Committee on Justice deliberations on the impeachment case against Chairman Bautista scheduled on Wednesday.
Aside from the House deliberations, the National Bureau of Investigation is also conducting an inquiry.
The investigations were triggered by the expose of Mrs. Bautista on the unexplained wealth of her husband after she discovered bank statements and other documents.
Kapunan said they will be back at the Office of the Ombudsman in two weeks for their next hearing.
“We informed them there is already an investigation being conducted by the NBI and therefore we don’t want to pre-empt whatever the results will be,” she said.
