MANILA - Detained former Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon received a special guest at his Senate detention quarters on Wednesday.

Faeldon's one-year-old daughter visited him at the Senate, where he is detained for snubbing Senate hearings. She said she misses her "Tatay."

"She stopped crying when she saw her Tatay and was filled with his tight and warm hug," Faeldon's counsel Jose Diño said.

Accused of corruption, Faeldon turned himself in at the Senate Monday, after lawmakers cited him in contempt for refusing to participate in hearings on a P6.4-billion drug shipment from China, which exposed an alleged "tara" (grease money) system at the Customs bureau.

Faeldon earlier said he would not testify at the Senate inquiry saying allegations against him and other Customs officials were unfair, and that he would rather explain his side in court.

He also waived his rights under bank secrecy laws to allow lawmakers to scrutinize his accounts. --Report from Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
