DAVAO CITY - Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte on Tuesday slammed Sen. Antonio Trillanes after the latter accused him of having more than P100 million in his bank account, saying this was a "recycled" issue.
The President's son said Trillanes ran out of questions during last week's Senate inquiry on the P6.4 billion drug smuggling and instead used "recycled" issues from the May 2016 polls.
"Naubusan siya ng tanong (sa Senate hearing), lumabas siya ng dalawang beses. Pagbalik niya anong ginawa? Recycled issue noong kampanya. Yung papel na pinakita niya, time deposit yon ni Mayor Sara, Baste, sa ina ko at sa akin. In-add niya ang principal for how many years. Kaya tinawag ko siyang 'Ugok,'" Duterte said in local dialect.
"By the way, I am a graduate of Banking and Finance," he added.
Trillanes during last week's Senate inquiry questioned the vice mayor on his bank accounts and alleged that as of November 2015, Duterte already had P104,282,161.65 in deposits.
He earlier said Duterte and brother-in-law Mans Carpio are members of a so-called Davao Group, which has been linked to corruption and smuggling in the Bureau of Customs.
Duterte refused to answer many of Trillanes' questions. He invoked his right to privacy when he was asked to show a tattoo that would allegedly confirm his membership in a Chinese triad. He also cited the bank secrecy law when asked about his bank accounts.
The son of President Duterte said his family has also been affected by the issue, saying his own daughter even called him a "drug smuggler."
"During the campaign, akong anak si Sabina Duterte, naa mi sa Baler Aurora, gipagawas ni Perfecto Tagalog nga kami mag-asawa, smuggler. Did you remember, ABS-CBN? Sa inyo 'to nigawas TV Patrol. Akong anak gikan sa gawas nisulod naghilak, "Ma, pa makulong na ba mo?" Karon nahitabo ni, gitawag ko niyag drug smuggler. Unsa ba gyud ko, Mr. Trillanes?"
(Ang anak ko na si Sabina Duterte, nasa Baler, Aurora kami, pinalabas ni Perfecto Tagalog na kaming mag-asawa, smuggler. Did you remember ABS-CBN? Sa inyo 'yon lumabas sa TV Patrol? Ang anak ko umiyak. "Ma, pa, makukulong na ba kayo?" Ngayon nangyari ito, tinawag niya akong drug smuggler.)
The senator earlier accused the vice mayor's father, President Rodrigo Duterte, of maintaining secret bank accounts since the elections last year.
In February this year, Trillanes presented documents claiming that bank accounts of Duterte and his three children, and some under the name of the president's partner, Cielito Avancena, had about P2 billion from 2006-2015.
The President has fended off the allegations and instead accused Trillanes of being the one with secret bank accounts.
Trillanes, in turn, signed a waiver for 12 bank accounts being linked to him, and dared the President to do the same.
Meanwhile, the younger Duterte also slammed critics scrutinizing his watch and even dared to give it to media men if its price would amount to P1.9 million.
"Itong relo, kung aabot ng 1.9 million pesos, ibibigay ko sa inyong media," he said.
As for the senator's allegations that the younger Duterte has a back tattoo that proves membership to a drug triad, the latter said he is not keen on showing the tattoo yet.
"Inisin mo talaga 'yung kalaban mo hanggang masira ang kanyang utak," the vice mayor said.
