CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela - A man was arrested Friday night after making a bomb joke at the inspection area in the entrance of a mall in this city.

The man was identified as Greg Cadiente, 21, and a resident of Barangay Villador, Reina Mercedes, Isabela.

When Cadiente was subjected to a bag inspection prior to entering the mall, he claimed that he had a bomb inside his bag, said Police Superintendent Ariel Quilang, Chief of Police of Cauayan City.

Cadiente claimed his statement was just a joke after seeing the guard's reaction.

But the guard reported the incident to the police, leading to Cadiente's arrest.

He is facing a complaint for violation of Presidential Decree 1727, which declares as unlawful "the malicious dissemination of false information of the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device."

The violation has a corresponding punishment of not more than five years of imprisonment or a fine of not more than P40,000.

The police warns the public not to make bomb jokes as this can cause commotions, especially in crowded areas like malls.

The management of SM Cauayan has yet to comment on the incident.
