MANILA -- Tomas Bagcal, the taxi driver robbery victim in the hours before the killing of teenager Carl Arnaiz, confirmed the 19-year old youth was his holdupper.

"I managed to pull off his hood when I subdued him," he said in Filipino at a press conference Sunday by Rise Up, the faith-based group giving him sanctuary.

"I saw his face," Bagcal said. "Yes, it was Carl."

But Bagcal said the alleged shootout was "scripted."

"I only wanted an inquest," he said, refusing to give other details.

He said the suspect was turned over to the police and then placed for a short time in a cell.

Later, police took him out and told Bagcal to follow to C3 Road.

There, he said, the suspect was made "to walk" before shots rang out. The driver hid behind a post and saw the suspect fall.

Bagcal promised the parents of Arnaiz, who cops claimed to have killed in a shootout, that he would ensure their child gets justice.
