The son of Labason, Zamboanga del Norte Mayor Eddie Quimbo was abducted by armed men in Barangay Poblacion, Labason on Wednesday night.

Sr. Supt. Raul Tacaca, director of Zamboanga del Norte Police, said at least six armed men abducted Jade Quimbo, who owns and manages a store in Labason.

Tacaca said Quimbo was inside his store when the suspects, pretending as customers, abducted him at gunpoint.

The workers of Quimbo were left helpless as they were also held at gunpoint by the armed men.

Quimbo was then instructed to board a red van which the police recovered in Barangay Osukan, approximately 2 to 3 kilometers away from Poblacion.

Police said the van was left empty when they found it a few minutes after the abduction.

They alleged that the abductors used a motorized speed boat as their get-away vehicle.

A joint rescue operation by the police and military have been launched following the incident.

They have also alerted all the coastal community leaders in Zamboanga del Norte and established security checkpoint in all possible exit points of the province.
