PALAWAN - A community-based rehabilitation project was launched in Brooke's Point, one of the southern municipalities in the province.
Project renewal and recovery from drugs or "PRRD" aims to involve the community to participate in the rehabilitation of drug users.
To date, 3,771 drug users and pushers have surrendered in Palawan in line with the PNP's Project Double Barrel. At least 400 of those who surrendered came from the municipality of Brooke's Point.
Palawan currently doesn't have a functional rehabilitation center to cater to them, and only pre-rehabilitation activities have been provided.
Atty. Kristal Padon-Rabanal, one of the volunteers, said that the project will ask the community to take the lead in helping drug users in rehabilitation. This process, according to her, will hopefully benefit both those who surrendered and the community.
Under the project, drug dependents will undergo several activities such as sports and community services for re-integration and values formation.
Once they graduate from the program, the group will then work to remove the graduates name from the PNP drug list.
After Brooke's Point, the group aims to introduce the program to the other municipalities in Palawan, including Puerto Princesa City.
