Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr. on Monday filed his counter-affidavit to the seven complaints filed against him by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
The PNP-CIDG filed the complaints against the mayor and his son Rolando "Kerwin" Espinosa last month. Among the charges raised were possession of illegal drugs, illegal possession of firearms, and murder.
His camp filed the counter-affidavit at a Regional Trial Court in Ormoc. By submitting this, his lawyers aim to halt the court from issuing a warrant of arrest against the mayor.
The elder Espinosa earlier named his son's alleged protectors in a separate seven-page affidavit, but Kerwin remains in hiding as of writing.
