The National Bureau of Investigation had inspected the house of Mabilog, an official on President Rodrigo Duterte's list of alleged narco-politicians, after the chief executive ordered a lifestyle check on him.

The inspection came after Duterte appointed Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, a key enforcer of his drug war, as police chief in Mabilog's turf. ]

Espenido was police chief in Albuera, Leyte and Ozamiz City when their respective mayors, Rolando Espinosa Sr. and Reynaldo Parojinog, were killed in separate police operations.

Duterte had said Espenido asked for the assignment to go after Mabilog.
