MANILA - For the first time as Chief Executive, President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday led the National Heroes Day flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies.
The commemorative program began at 8 a.m. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
Vice President Leni Robredo, Army chief of staff Liutenant General Ricardo Visaya and national police director Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and other officials joined the event.
Foreign diplomats, including Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua also graced the program.
The President is expected to deliver a speech as the guest of honor.
The theme for this year's National Heroes Day is "Bawat Pilipino, Bayaning Katuwang sa Pagbabago."
