MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday that he will place a P2-million bounty on the heads of each policeman who are coddling drug rings.

"I might be inclined to place a reward on their head, the members of the ninja or police who are protecting drug syndicates. I am placing per head, P2 million," he said at a speech delivered at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in celebration of the National Heroes' Day.

He also urged the public to "sell out" personnel of the Philippine National Police who have alleged links to the narcotics trade.

"Ipagbili mo na iyung mga kaibigan na iyun. (Sell out those friends.) I want the police and the Armed Forces to destroy the drug apparatus in this country," he said.

He also warned other government officials dabbling with drugs that, "There will be a day of comeuppance. There'll always be a day of reckoning."

Duterte also reiterated that he will protect government forces from criminal liability as they carry out his brutal campaign against criminality and narcotics.

"You will have my support, you will have all the things you need to fight criminals... Pursuant to my directions, you do not have to worry about criminal liability.

"I will go the prison for you. I take full, legal responsibility. You should just do it according to the books."
