MANILA - The Department of Agriculture (DA) has formed a task force that will focus on illegal fishing activities in the West Philippine Sea.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol ordered the creation of the task force after fishermen from Zambales informed him that foreign poachers enter traditional fishing grounds near the province.
The Filipino fishers also claimed that foreigners use explosives that cause extensive damage to the underwater ecosystem.
The group requested for radio equipment so they could immediately report illegal fishing activities.
The DA's Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will lead the task force against poaching.
