MANILA - Seven policemen who allegedly tried extorting P100,000 from a falsely accused man surrendered to authorities on Saturday.
The suspects were identified as PO1 Emmanuel Benefict Alojacin, PO1 Mark Ryan Mones, PO1 Jonnel Valencia, PO1 Kenneth Loria, PO1 Christian Paul Bondoc, PO1 Jack Rennert Etcubañas, and PO2 Jessrald Pacino.
According to the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF), the suspects arrested a certain Mark Echeparee in Barangay Longos, Malabon last Friday for allegedly violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.
The suspects then called the parents of the victim and demanded P100,000 for his release, the PNP-CITF said, adding that the cops even allegedly threatened to kill the victim.
The mother of Echeparee filed a complained before the PNP-CITF on the same day, leading to the follow-up operations that led to the identity of the suspects.
The suspects surrendered to Navotas's police chief on Saturday night and the victim was turned over to his family. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
