LUMBAYANAGUE, Lanao del Sur - Authorities found at least 500 grams of shabu worth P1 million when they intercepted four suspects at a checkpoint here, Saturday.

Arrested were suspects Abedin Macasasa, Alex Macasasa, Ansary Hadji Fahad Disoma, and Fatima Billa, said acting provincial police director Senior Supt. John Gano Guyguyon.

Police received a tip that the four drug carriers would be passing by the area, Guyguyon said. The suspects said their illegal drug supply came from Manila, he added.

The official said the suspects are plain drug users and pushers and are not related to the Maute terror group, which has laid siege on the province's capital Marawi City.

The suspects admitted that they were couriers and were forced to transport the illegal substance due to extreme poverty, Guyguyon said.

"Pinabenta sa akin para daw bigyan ako ng pera, walang kapera-pera ngayon ang mga tao dahil sa hirap," one suspect said.

Drug-related charged will be filed against the four suspects.
