The Commission on Elections (Comelec) employees on Thursday showed their support for poll chief Andres Bautista amid claims by his estranged wife that he misdeclared his wealth.
Comelec staff wore white and attended mass at the Manila Cathedral across the bureau’s main office in Intramuros, Manila.
Aside from the mass, the poll bureau’s employees held a protest in support of their chairman and said they do not want him to resign.
“We all know chairman to be a decent individual. And not just a decent individual personally but more so as a public official,” said Jonathan Ibañez, a Comelec employee.
Bautista, who was emotional while attending the mass, thanked his staff.
“Pabayaan niyo na ang Korte na humusga. Dasal, dasal lang. ‘Yun ang pinakamahalaga lalo na para sa aking mga anak,” he said.
Bautista on Wednesday filed charges of grave coercion, qualified theft and robbery, and extortion against his wife Patricia.
