DAVAO CITY - A couple who posed as licensed dentists were apprehended in an entrapment operation in Davao City on Thursday afternoon.

The Davao City Dental chapter alerted authorities about the alleged illegal practice of Joelan and Rezil Estoy inside their home.

The suspects were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation and will face charges for violation of R.A. 9484 or An Act to Regulate the Practice of Dentistry in the Philippines.

"We received a lot of reports online, so through that, [we] were able to track them down. Based on our source, there are about 40 plus who are selling online retailers, fabricating retainers, braces and doing procedures so it is alarming," said Dr. Carlos Capitan, chair of Davao City Dental chapter.

More than 100 unlicensed dentists are allegedly illegally practicing in Davao.

"We have to be reminded that people should really seek professional help for their oral health. Our mouth has saliva and blood so if wrong procedure is done, it can cause various diseases like hepatitis, AIDS, and other blood-borne diseases," said Dr. Pinky Daisy Diamante-Angco, president of the Davao City Dental chapter.
