MANILA - Cops killed a fellow police officer during a drug bust in Barangay Pilaway, Infanta in Quezon province Thursday morning.
Romeo Caramat Jr., head of the Philippine National Police Counter Intelligence Task Force and Special Action Force, said operatives were conducting a buy-bust operation against PO2 Ian Rey Abitona when he suddenly drew his gun and began shooting.
Caramat said Abitona was suspected of having links to narcotics syndicates in Infanta. He allegedly used civilian assets to recycle drugs.
Abitona was recently relieved from his post as an intel and drug enforcement operative and reassigned as desk officer.
Caramat said Abitona was included in the Quezon Provincial Police Office drugs watchlist.
The crime laboratory is currently processing the crime scene.
