A policeman was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Tanauan City, authorities said Thursday.
The victim was identified as PO3 Eric Oñate Lindo, 43, who was assigned at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Police said Lindo was on his way home aboard his vehicle when a sedan with no license plate blocked his path upon reaching Barangay Pagaspas around 2 p.m.
Witnesses said two gunmen stepped out of the car and opened fire at Lindo before escaping towards an unknown direction.
Lindo had just come from his store in Sto. Tomas town when the incident happened, authorities said.
Senior Supt. Randy Peralta, Batangas Police Director, immediately ordered the activation of "Oplan Kalasag" to investigate the case and identify the suspects.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
