Here are the stories making ANC’s newscasts today:
Just a suggestion
On THE President’s statement that he would want to step down next year in time for the transition to a federal form of government, in his last speech he said this was just a suggestion. Is the President stepping down legally feasible? Was the President serious? Then again, who really knows if he means what he says? In his last speech, President Duterte also claimed that Vice President Leni Robredo is incompetent and can never be ready to become president. He also violated his moratorium on speaking against the Catholic Church and on religion. He also said he doesn’t care if his survey ratings have dropped.
Transition and plebiscite
The bicameral conference committee working on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is due to present to President Duterte the contentious provisions of the law on territory and the plebiscite. Meanwhile, the Consultative Committee (Concom) which worked on a draft federal constitution has agreed in principle to include elections for the transition President and Vice President as per the instructions of President Duterte. Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay will be on Early Edition to talk about the draft federal constitution.
Rosy for SONA
There will be a pre-State of the Nation Address (SONA) forum at the PICC at 10 a.m. Those slated to attend are members of Cabinet including DBM Sec. Ben Diokno, DILG OIC Eduardo Ano, and DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones. We can expect rosy statements and numbers and an enumeration of accomplishments. ANC will air this live but will do fact-checking and get reactions from other quarters.
On corruption and killings
The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission said Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan knew of corruption at city hall and this could be the reason why he was killed. There could be another press conference by probers. ANC will be ready to air this live.
