A volunteer for Task Force Boniel dives into the sea to search for Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel’s remains.

It has nearly been a month since the divers of Task Force Boniel started their search operations for Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel’s body.

The divers entered their 17th diving day and searched the waters near Barangay Caw-oy, Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City where they found a cave on Monday.

The divers even brought a "paranormal expert" to the waters of Lapu-Lapu City and Bohol in their search last Saturday.

The person mentioned a cave in the area and claimed that Boniel's body can be found there.

The divers, however, were not able to get inside the cave due to limitations with their oxygen tanks. They plan to return on Wednesday to continue the search.

On June 29, the mayor's husband, Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel, pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges.

The mayor's best friend, Angela Leyson, filed the case before the Talibon Regional Trial Court.

The mayor was allegedly thrown off a boat in Caubian Island, Cebu after her husband allegedly shot her dead on June 8.
