Some 9,000 food packs and ammunition were delivered to Iligan City, Monday.

ILIGAN CITY – Food packs and artillery supplies were delivered by the Philippine Navy's BRP Davao del Sur last Monday evening.

BRP Davao del Sur brought almost 9,000 food packs prepared by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Allan Lapuz, who handles DSWD’s warehouse, said these reserve supplies include rice, canned goods and instant coffee. They will be stored in a hub in Lanao del Norte.

Dr. Alinader Minalang of the Department of Health Lanao del Sur said she is wary over the evacuees’ excessive and prolonged consumption of processed food.

The health department stressed how this has compromised the evacuees’ nutrition.

Minalang said the evacuees have been receiving processed food from government and private donors since day one of the Marawi crisis.

“We are advocating na sana kung may magbibigay ng relief, yung nutritious food para naman ma-build up ang kanilang immune system,” Minalang said.

With the continuing firefight in Marawi, the evacuees remain encamped in Iligan indefinitely.
