Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Tuesday said the information in a circulating PNP memo on planned bombings by the Maute group in Metro Manila has not yet been verified.
“Raw information pa iyun at hindi pala talaga iyun intelligence, meaning nagdaan na sa process, validated na. Iyun dapat for general consumption, kapag na-validate na,” Dela Rosa said in an interview with DZMM.
"But nevertheless, hindi po natin dinidiscount iyung information na ganun kaya nga pina-designate kaagad natin sa local units para bigyan nila ng kaukulang aksyon."
Dela Rosa advised the public not to panic as they are still validating the information on the leaked memo, which has since gone viral in social media.
“It pays to be informed but it doesn’t pay to panic. Huwag natin sabihin na totoo at tayo ay matatakot dahil impormasyon pa lang iyan na hindi pa validated. Better safe than sorry but better huwag magpatakot sa threat na iyan kasi kapag natakot tayo, mananalo sila,” he said.
The PNP memo, dated June 16, states that the Maute group is “planning to conduct bombing in Trinoma, Quezon City, SM Cubao, Quezon City Circle, certain places in Quiapo and Makati.”
Dela Rosa assured government forces continue to be in full alert.
“Patuloy ang ating heightened, full alert. Halos hindi natutulog ang intelligence operatives, patuloy iyan na nangangalap ng impormasyon regarding sa threat na iyan,” he said.
“Again, I want to tell the public na just relax, enjoy the weekend, huwag tayo magpadala sa takot. But at the same time, we must be mapagmatiyag, mapagmasid.”
