DAVAO CITY -- Members of the 3rd Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) clashed with members of the New People's Army in Upper Tamugan, Calinan district in Davao City Sunday morning.

According to Lt. Col. Raymond Lachica, the commanding officer of the 3rd Infantry Battalion, the soldiers just came from an encounter in Marilog and were on their way to the camp in Calinan when a landmine exploded.

They were able to lay mine pero nakabawi naman ang tropa... they were able to maneuver 'yung nang-ambush at nakuha nila 'yung higher ground kung saan andun 'yung mga rebelde. Ongoing pa ang clearing operations at hot pursuit," Lachica said.

The military truck was not hit. The NPA members who were positioned at the top of the mountain then fired at the soldiers.
