MANILA (UPDATE) - A suspect in the killing of a Catholic priest in Nueva Ecija province has been arrested, the chief of the Philippine National Police said Friday.
The death of Father Richmond Nilo in a shooting in Zaragoza town last Sunday has raised concern in the Roman Catholic church. He is the third priest to be gunned down in 6 months.
The suspect, Adell Roll Milan, was arrested in Malapit village, San Isidro town, also in Nueva Ecija at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Director General Oscar Albayalde said.
Milan was identified by an altar boy, Albayalde said. No other details were immediately available.
Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, director of Police Regional Office 3, said they are now preparing for the filing of a murder case against the suspect.
"As of now, he has not said anything except for the vital information during the booking procedure," Corpus told ANC's Top Story.
"Based on initial information, we cannot establish any relationship with the victim except that they are from neighboring towns, San Isidro and San Antonio."
