MANILA - Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano met with Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim on Thursday in a sign of improving ties between Washington and Manila.
Kim took to social media to share a photo of his "good" discussions with Cayetano.
"Getting to know SFA Cayetano. Good discussions on current developments and long-term issues," he captioned the photo on Twitter.
President Rodrigo Duterte has often sniped at Washington, his country's longtime ally, after former US President Barack Obama raised concern on his war on drugs.
The Filipino leader has also sought to mend relations with China and spoken of improving ties with Russia.
Ties between Manila and Washington thawed under the administration of US President Donald Trump, who has not directly and openly criticized Duterte's controversial campaign so far.
Cayetano and top defense officials on Wednesday also met with the commander of the US Pacific Fleet who visited Manila to reaffirm long-standing ties between the American Navy and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
