MANDAUE CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Visayas Disaster Response Center will send Saturday additional food packs for 10,000 families who fled the fighting in Marawi City.
DSWD Region 7 Information Officer Leah Quintana said it was already the third batch of food packs sent to Mindanao for evacuees from the Marawi City conflict.
Over the last two weeks, 20,000 food packs were sent to the cities of Cagayan and Iligan respectively, after the DSWD Central Office asked for additional help for the evacuees.
Quintana added that the food packs contained halal canned goods for Muslims.
The family food packs, which cost P360 each, contained six kilos of rice, four cans of halal meat, and six instant coffee sachets.
Thousands of residents have fled Marawi City since clashes between government troops and terrorists began on May 23. A total of 175 have died, including 120 terrorists, 36 government troops and 19 civilians.
