DAVAO CITY - Police rescued a 26-year-old woman who was held hostage by her live-in partner inside their house in Barangay Dumoy early Friday.
Residents said they woke up to a loud scream from the victim who was seeking help. Neighbor Criselda Umpad said she saw the suspect, identified as Marcial Alberca, pointing a broken liquor bottle to the victim's neck.
When his father came in to rescue, Alberca slammed the bottle to the victim's face, causing injuries.
After 2 hours, police were able to rescue the victim and arrest the suspect.
Chief Inspector Oliver Navales, Talomo police station commander, said law enforcers decided to break into the house to prevent further injuries suffered by the victim.
Navales said they have yet to establish why Alberca decided to take his partner hostage.
Serious illegal detention and frustrated murder charges will be filed against Alberca.
