MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday celebrated her birthday with a wish for peace in Mindanao, which was placed under martial rule last week after terror groups attacked the southern city of Marawi.
"I wish for peace in Davao City, in Mindanao and if it is not too much God, the entire Philippines," the presidential daughter said in an Instagram post.
At the same time, Duterte-Carpio also enumerated the things she was thankful for.
"Thank you God for the gift of life and family. Thank you everyone for taking a moment out of your busy day to send greetings," she said.
President Rodrigo Duterte, the mayor's father, declared martial law in Mindanao after after Maute and Abu Sayyaf fighters torched several buildings in Marawi, clashed with state troops, and abducted some civilians.
The government believes the Maute carried out their assault before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to capture the attention of Islamic State and earn recognition as a regional affiliate.
The fighting has left dead 129 people, including 19 civilians, 21 government troops, and 89 terrorists as of Wednesday, Malacañang said.
