MANILA – The House of Representatives is looking at setting up a trust fund for the benefit of families displaced by the fighting in Marawi City.
According to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, the trust fund can be the House’s contribution to the recovery of the city, after parts of it were destroyed in continuing clashes between government troops and groups Maute and Abu Sayyaf.
“We have to do our part in sharing the heavy burden of what happened in Marawi City. To this end, may I inform you that the House of Representatives has taken the initiative to create a trust fund to aid in this mission,” Alvarez said during his sine die adjournment speech on the last day of the first regular session of the 17th Congress.
The fighting in Marawi City has displaced of thousands of residents, and left at least 104 people dead.
