MANILA - Senators and congressmen on Wednesday approved a bill that will extend the validity of drivers' licenses to 10 years.
The Senate and the House of Representatives needs to approve the report of the bicameral committee separately before President Rodrigo Duterte can sign it into law.
The House contingent initially wanted licenses to be valid for 5 years, but later on agreed with the 10-year proposal from the Senate.
Prior to the bill's passage, the Department of Transportation in August 2016 extended the validity period of driver's licenses to five years in a bid to shorten queues for renewal.
