MANILA (UPDATE)- Two police officers kidnapped by terror group Abu Sayyaf have been released, Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde said Wednesday.
Albayalde said PO2 Benierose Alvarez and PO1 Dinah Gumahad were released unharmed.
The two police officers will be turned over to local authorities in Sulu and will undergo debriefing, Albayalde told reporters.
They were abducted last April 29 along with Blas Jackosalim Ahamad, and Faizal Ahidji.
Ahidji was released by the bandits last May 5 while Ahamad was rescued by military forces last May 8.
Speaking to ANC, Albayalde attributed the release of the two police officers to negotiations initiated by the local government of Sulu.
He said the bandits initially asked for a P5 million ransom in exchange for the release of the two police officers but noted that they have yet to confirm whether a ransom was paid.
"I really can't say if a ransom was paid or not as of this time," he said.
