MANILA - The Department of Education is set to kick off next week "Brigada Eskwela," the annual preparation of public schools for the upcoming academic year.
DepEd Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali said the focus of "Brigada" this year is to prepare the schools and classrooms for possible disasters.
"[This year's focus is] the preparedness of our classrooms. They have to be resilient in time of disasters," he told ANC.
Umali said "Brigada Eskwela 2017" will be launched on May 15 at the Ramon Duterte high school in Cebu and will run until May 20. First day of classes for public schools will be on June 5.
DepEd is hoping more volunteers will participate in this year's "Brigada Eskwela." Umali said that in 2016, the number of "Brigada" volunteers almost doubled compared to 2015.
