NEGROS ORIENTAL- A man was killed after the motorcycle that he was driving collided with a government vehicle on Monday morning at the national highway of Barangay Mabuhay in the town of Sta. Catalina.
The victim was identified as Jeoffrey Guinkito Jr. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Sherwin Paala, the driver of the government vehicle, said he was driving on his lane on the way to the Negros Oriental Provincial Capitol when Guinkito allegedly went to his lane resulting in a head-on collision.
The government vehicle, with plate number SJZ 325, was carrying Board Member Peve Ligan, who was scheduled to attend a session Monday morning.
Witnesses, however, said the motorcycle was on the right lane, and that it was the government vehicle which moved to the wrong lane and crashed into Guinkito's motorcycle.
"The motorcycle was moving slowly, passing on the right lane when it was suddenly hit by a government vehicle," witness Wilfredo Villanueva said in the local dialect.
Ligan declined to be interviewed after the incident. Paala, on the other hand, was detained in the Sta. Catalina police station.
Paala will face a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
