MANILA - Malacañang on Sunday said it welcomes the Liberal Party's opposition of the impeachment cases filed against President Rodrigo Duterte.
President spokesperson Ernesto Abella said filing impeachment complaints against the President will be counterproductive for the country.
"Any impeachment process would be counterproductive for the Philippines which has been described to be the fastest growing in Southeast Asia," he told government-run station Radyo ng Bayan.
The Liberal Party (LP) earlier said it will not be backing impeachment cases filed against Duterte or Vice President Leni Robredo.
LP stalwart Miro Quimbo said impeachment complaints against the two highest officials will be a distraction for them as they have important legislative matters to attend to.
Quimbo added that they are standing by Robredo, the highest-ranking elected member of their party.
