NORTH COTABATO - Five people were killed when a 10-wheeler truck slammed into three motorcycles after losing its brakes in Barangay Malasila in the town of Makilala Saturday morning.

Makilala Police Chief Inspector Ronaldo Viola identified four of the fatalities as Jun-jun Alimohan and his wife Vanjie, who were on-board a red motorcycle, and Rich Carino and Anjie Alimohan, who were riding a blue motorcycle.

Another man who died in the incident has yet to be identified.

The truck driver, Daud Salik, meanwhile sustained injuries.

Investigation showed that the truck, which was carrying a heavy load of softdrinks, came from Davao City and was bound for Midsayap, North Cotabato.

While traversing the national highway at Barangay Malasila, the truck's brakes malfunction, resulting in a head-on collision with 3 motorcycles traveling in the opposite direction.

The said highway is considered an accident-prone area.

Police said Salik may be held liable for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.
