Best friends Teodora Maquino, 103, and Loreto Sorilla, 101, attended elementary together and both became teachers.

Under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act, senior citizens who reach the age of 100, such as Maquino and Sorilla, will receive a one-time cash grant of P100,000.

In Iloilo City, 109 centenarians received on Wednesday incentives and recognition from the provincial government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Rebecca Geamala, regional director of DSWD Western Visayas, handed out the cash grant to each centenarian.

Meanwhile, Iloilo officials are hoping to give additional P30,000 to each centenarian as soon as the supplemental budget is approved.

Free hospitalization at 12 district hospitals is currently available for senior citizens.

Of the 109 centenarians in the province of Iloilo, Lambunao town houses most of them with 11.
