MANILA – A 4.9 magnitude quake struck off Davao Oriental on Monday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the quake struck 141 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town at 6:38 p.m.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of 83 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the quake is not expected to cause damage or produce aftershocks.
The province of Batangas is still reeling from successive quakes on Saturday which have since been producing strong aftershocks.
Earthquakes jolted Mabini town in Batangas Saturday afternoon. The first tremor was a magnitude 5.7 at 3:08 p.m., followed by a magnitude 5.9 a minute later.
A third quake measuring magnitude 5.0 hit Taysan town in Batangas 20 minutes later.
